Getting my first 2 log loads tomorrow

I found a part time logger that is going to start selling me log loads. He told me his truck holds 3kft. I'm buying scrag timber from him. I'm hoping to get 6 cords a load. I'm paying $450 a load. Will I get that much from 3k feet of scrag? I told him to bring 2 loads.

I traded a logger an old two ton truck for three loads of logs, he's only delivered one so far, he's six months overdue but to answer your question, he brought a ford f700
with all the logs he could haul on it with pipes for load securing on the sides and basically a 1/2 load on his skidder trailer and it only made 9 cord. I was disappointed in the quanity, he had told me it would be 12 cord. I hope you have better luck.

with most loads of logs at 3000 board feet you should get close to 6 cords... but just remember this figure is guesstimated by a sawyer and not a pulper... a good sawyer gets 500 to 550 bf to a cord.... then again it will depend on if its a circular mill or band ... the best way to buy logs is to do the math with the 3 figures we were all taught in school (l.xw.xh.= ?)..... best of luck to you!!

Sucks that you have to pay for the wood. We've been fortunate enough to never have paid for any wood (besides the time and effort lol)

Just make sure you aren't paying more for the wood than you would your primary heat source

who cares about primary heat etc. its about the fun of cutting and splitting..cost is irrelevant. its good exercise... lol:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

He's delivering it on a tandem picker truck. Scrag timber is timber that is sold to the pallet mill. They will take timber down to 6" on the small end. When I said 3k bdft I mean 3 thousand board feet. I'm not worried about using it for a heat source I'll be selling the wood. I get wood for free also but not enough to fill my customers needs. I'm going to have to start buying log loads to have enough firewood for the winter.

Length and width at the middle and some math you can figure out what is in there in cubic foot. Then you can figure out what you actually got in the load.

I know about getting loads delivered. This year it would not have been possible, and I think I am on 7 or is it 8 loads?? These are LARGE loads I am getting, claimed to be 20 cords, and I can say that I am getting atleast 18 out of them.

Don't want to pry, but what type of logs are you getting, and how much are these 20 cord loads costing? The math puts these trailers at somewhere in the 45 ton range?

I have a few people that use the wood for heat. Most of my customers are people just wanting to enjoy a fire. They want something that is going to burn when they want their weekly or weekend fire.

From my experience I'm gonna say somewhere around 4 out of 3k bf. I can fit 2k bf on my C60 and that usually winds up being around 2 1/2 cord cut and split. Of course how it's loaded and how many crooked logs are wedged in there will change the number alot!

Funny this thread comes up today. I was driving home from work yesterday behind two tandem trucks full of logs. One had some nice big straight logs the mill, but the other had smaller logs that looked to be destined for firewood or maybe pallets. I was able to get a pic of the latter truck with my cell phone:

I'm stickin with the 4 full cord, abouts. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's more! The goin rate here has been around $100 a cord for logs the last couple years. You got a nice mix of clean wood there at any rate!

Ouch. I think I would've kept the truck, but I can see why you would have wanted it had the deal been honestly upheld.
