This spring I planted 2 grafted male ginkgo trees that were only a few years old. We had a strong storm a couple months back where a portion of the green leader at the the top was snapped by hail. It was only a couple inches that was taken. Since that time it has not grown at all in height. The second ginkgo tree that I planted has grown about half a foot since that time. Will this impact the trees ability to grow any taller? Will a new shoot occur next year or should I look to replace the tree? Currently, the tree that was hit by hail is about 4 ft tall.

I actually didn't notice that until you pointed it out. Maybe that's a new shoot coming out?
Yea im not familiar with those trees but that didn't look like the rest of the leaves/shoots, maybe since it broke the tree is doing something different now.
It's growing a new top.
Ireally do hope so. I'd like it a bit taller than 3' tall!
Just wasn't sure if I would have to train a new leader or if it's young enough to do it by itself.
Let it grow for now and in the next year or two you may have to make some decisions on pruning.
Imagine growth that doesn't exist yet.
