Question for you you guys.

Have just celebrated the 4th birthday of our first son ( I have another boy and girl, twins 2.5years old).

Anyway, not really a wood question, but what have you had to give up due to kids/family.

My major loss was Scuba Diving, would dive every weekend, sometimes during the week work permitting and have been to some awesome places to dive, Red Sea, Poor Knights in New Zealand, Gozo, Canary Island etc etc etc.

Anyway it's ain't a family friendly pass time. rarely dive now......someday.

But the kids are worth it...... so my wife tells me:dizzy:

LOL, I had to give up going to Tennesee 5-6 times a summer with a buddy to ride like a **** around the Smokey Mountains and spending the nights getting hammered and sleeping with girls I didn't know the names of:)
But seriously I haven't rode since I've been married, now it's 4-wheelers, which I don't enjoy riding as much, but the kid does. And buying them their first dirt bikes. Honestly I really enjoy being a Dad, my hobbies have turned to other things now and it is about as fun as my ones before my wife and kids.

their worth it, I used to go fishing no less then 3 times a week every week. I picked up my 7 weight fly rod the other day it actually had dust on it.
BUT:
When I do go fishing now it's taking my 8 year old son, he has a love of fishing that I can share with him. It's worth it!

While you may have a lag in your diving for awhile, soon your son will be diving w/ you, and it will even be more fun than before. Doing a sport you love w/ your son is very rewarding.
I used to race bikes a lot, then had an 8 year lag when my son was growing up. Then he started up, and we have had so much fun together the past 15 years riding bikes.

To much to list  The thing I miss the most is my bird dog trials. It was an absolute blast. With the expense of the dogs and the amount of time it takes training, trialing and being on the road it's not a family man's hobby. Someday I'll get back into it and hopefully I'll have my son riding beside me. My bowhunting has taken a little hit as well but not to much, it's close to home and the wife let's me pretty much go whenever I want. All in All they are definately worth it, my parents gave stuff up for me it's the least I can do.

Sports. Playing them, that is. Pretty much everything is work or home now. But mostly what I miss is peace of mind. When I was young, single and childless I never really worried about the future. I figured I'd get along somehow, even if I had to live in a box. But with children it's different.

For me it was road racing. Not sure if I can blame it on the wife/kids, but I may be able to ponder this now because of them?
I must say, I sure hated to give it up, but let's face it, I was no Eddie Lawson...<BR>

Sorry, racing is a tough habbit to kick. That's PIR isn't it?

I also used to race on two wheels but it was too much of a commitment to balance with a family. Raced twice a week, rode two or three nights a week and was in the gym on my "off" nights. I still miss it too much to go watch but am going to start volunteering as an EMT up at Washougal this year.

I got my EMT to volunteer on our local Fire dept. We send a squad up to Washougal for the races which is why I'll be up there. It will be my first time without a bike. :(

Smoking. mostly

Loss of benefits attendant of a mom who's breast feeding.

Loss of consciousness for 5 minutes after wife reads previous sentence and whacks me good on the noggin.

Gains:

Never knew how much I'd enjoy watching monster trucks demolishing a pile of wrecks before my son came along.

Suddenly, all the things my dad said to me came back. If he can't pick something up, he's mashed potatoe muscles. All sortsa other stuff.

Prolly gonna find out some pink n' girly stuff is fun when my daughter gets a little older.

Fishing and military...fishing probably the most...although my oldest is now 8 and loves to fish...just not so easy w/ an 8yr old and 3 yr old in the boat together. Absolute riot when there is a fish on however. As far as military figured they needed a father more than the Army needed another Armor Officer.
Have to say my 8yr old is getting me back into sports but as a coach. Coached her AAU basketball team and now her baseball team...enjoy it almost as much as when I played.
Have to say they both love riding quads w/ wife and I and my 3 yr old daughter has claimed my 362XP as her own. I have to ask her before I can use it.
Wouldn't trade the family life for the carousing and drinkin I did when I was younger.
Riding w/ my 3 yr old

I have a 5 year old boy twin girls 2 1/2 and we just had another girl two weeks ago.
I live on a lake and enjoy fishing all the time. My boy loves to fish I have one of the tiwns are taking an intrest. I fish maybe once a week when everyone is in bed for a couple hours and my boy and I go sunday after church for 3-4 hours. I given up on one thing TRYING TO PLAN MY WEEKENDS!!!!!!! thats for my wife i guess; with her side of the family and mine it seems that there is a b-day party or something alway going on. not much time to fish/hunt/firewood gathering ect. heck I can bairly mow the lawn during the week. But I sure enjoy the time we do have together. my boy likes to go hunting in the fall I dont even bring a gun I have my chainsaw and he helps load the truck its amazing what a little candy and pop will do

Before my daughter was born (now almost 5) I was really into off road mototrcycle racing (GNCC) and any harescramble race for that matter. During the winter I used to ski and then switched to snow boarding and also played ice hockey (still have my equipment). Since the birth of my daughter, I don't race much, haven't skiied or snow boarded or played hockey in years. My daughter has had an interest in dirtbikes and quads and cars.
