good compression for a 288 with 0.030" squish?

Is 120psi bad for this bore (54mm for a 288) on a 281 crankcase?
 
Hard to say but you’re probably ok. I think most stock Husky saws have compression around 140, so 120psi seems low. However, I also think .030 squish is excessive and should probably be closer to .020-.025. If you tighten up the squish you’ll see compression rise, and I would do that as it will make better power and be more efficient. But on a big saw if you want it nice and easy to pull over you can leave it as is.
