this has gone on a crazy tangent. i was originally responding to a guy that said you would lose power by drilling holes in ur top cover. which is f-ing stupid. i seriously doubt any significant positive pressure exists in any airbox on any saw at any rpm. i seriously doubt you could produce enough positive pressure to impact the amount of air delivered to the carburetor.
Well, my 462, one of the best power to weight ratios on the market has no holes into the air box besides what's left open around the switch. Literally none, I just took a good long look at it. It's purposely sealed off otherwise. So obviously they're able to to provide plenty of air to that air box with the flywheel because the hole around the switch is smaller than the throat in the carb.
We can agree to disagree...no problem there. It was just a discussion, neither of us have any real evidence or facts to back up our claims.
Maybe I'll tape some tissue paper over the switch on my saw and see if it gets blown out or sucked in...seems easy enough to test.
