i just got done with a cob job homelite. i had a 340 with no piston or cylinder and i had a 290 with no body but a good cylinder and piston. so i combined the two together. i had to do some creative machien work to it but i got her ot work out for me. i am trying to figure out what to call it now.

Andrew here are some possible choices for naming your saw;
1. A 315 because is it halfway between a 290 and 340.
2. A bastard.
3. A frankenstein because you raised it from the dead.
4. A homeley lite because it's probably ugly.
5. A 239400 amalgamated.
6. The Red Peril, use at you own risk!
Well there are many more but this should get you started. Mike :p

personally i did it cause i wanted to see if i actualyl could do it. but it does seem to have more power than a stock 340. but i jsut start it up to watch people shake their heads at it. but i like the frankenstien thing.

Hello;

I think what you did is great. It is quite satisfying to use sound machining techniques to build something that would otherwise be scrap. I bet the saw runs/cuts good.
I like to restore saws that would normally be unrepairable, resleeve, resize, weld, turn, anneal, make new(needle) bearings, and make the parts needed to make new again.
Why not call it Phoenix?
