I am writing a book and have been asked by my editor to confirm how timber is sold in Canada?

Is it board feet same as the US?

So a correct phrase may be lumber is sold in North America by the board foot?

Thanks,

As always many comments welcome.

Erik

Well you have two different statements there, timber, as in standing timber or logs are mostly sold in cubic metres as Canada mostly uses metric measures. We are still stuck with imperial measures held over from days gone by and because of our association with the US.

Lumber is most commonly sold by the board foot as in the US.

Was ya refering to the log rule? as in a doyle, scribners, international.....etc. what does canada use?

As in my post above, here in Canada we mostly sell timber or logs by the volume, rather than by the board feet contained in the log. We use cubic metres to measure the volume of wood contained in a log.
