How to remove bar retaining bolt?

The most common reason is that the saw owner is running a shot drive sprocket and they are desperately trying to keep their chains tight. They are assuming that the bar nuts are not holding the bar in place.

I remember thinking that once. That was a LONG time ago. First I ever used a chainsaw, as it happens.

After wearing out a chain or two, it became a bit clearer what was going on.
 
just wanted to update and thx contributors. i don't have time to work on lower level finds, so returned it to the re-use shed. hopefully, someone else will give it a go.
