The clattering on the 350 is likely just the drum vibrating on the bearing. To check, apply the brake and see if it stops. Some grease will deaden the noise.

Do you guys always replace the bearing when installing a new drum?

Not unless the bearing shows signs of damage. Most of the time it's OK for several sprockets. However, it seems that many operators know exactly how to burn out needle bearings. Many times it's excess heat that destroys them.

I guess they were bad.

Hard to tell the diff. from a 350 or the 142 .
Bearings were good on both saws.( that bolt was just so I could take the pics)
I had to change out the chain on the 142 ..not much teeth on the drive side of the chain..
Oh ya the noise is gone..

You got your money's worth out of those. I'm guessing you were not talking about chattering at idle after seeing that.
