I have 2 of these critters, they seem to breathe ok, but would it benefit from more? Or would it be counterproductive? Already ditched the screen. Id like to hear from ppl who have actually done it to this saw.
I have a deflector made up already that i had on a larger saw, kinda big but was thinking of just popping a 1/2" hole in the muffler body. I could mount in front of the existing exh hole as shown....i could also make a smaller one. Or how about a 261 front exit exh?
Let me know what you all think.

I would just open up the existing stock outlet. You could cut a slot in the front cover and open it up to create a second outlet.

Ya, im gonna see if i can locate a late 261 front cover that has factory front exh outlet and try that out.

The front opening in a 261 isn't going to add much. I have one and I peeled it further back to create a satisfactory opening. I think you were given the correct advice to just open the current hole further. It is pretty easy to access.

My 262 was done before I got it, but was opened to match the inside of the deflector. It is plenty loud, and I doubt that it would benefit from much more, at least for work.

Roger that, and by the way, was watchin your 038 mag gain $ last night! Gor anymore of them hidin in your closet?!
