Honestly that's the most sensible route. By the time you figure the cost of a piston plus the pin bearing it's hardly worth messing with a used cylinder.

I do like to keep some spares handy to play with on the lathe though.

Put some loctite on the cylinder bolts. The larger 390 bore harmonics will vibrate them loose quite often.
