Bought this Craftsman 55cc saw well over 10 years ago BRAND NEW.
POS used it twice & the rear handle cracked & broke in short order...
Made by Jenn Feng (Taiwan).

Believe it or not, the cylinder/piston are pretty well made.
C-clips are tiny.

It's like a "Hybrid".
Husqvarna bought "Jenn Feng".

Is this considered a "Clam Shell"?

Don’t think so. To my knowledge a clamshell top end bolts around the crankshaft.

I'm gonna find a little 33cc/14" bar saw & fit this 55cc engine in...
Just for fun.

It's like new & ran decent the two times I ran it.
Back then I thought it had some power. LOL!

What little research I've done, the Husqvarna 350 is very similar in design.
Considered a clamshell with the benefit of removing the gasket between the crank block & jug.
Thus increasing compression.
