Is this normal?

Hello. I recently planted a red oak and I have noticed some of the bark on the lower trunk is falling off. I am just wondering if this is part of the normal growing process or if I’m looking at tree health problems. Thanks

I wouldn’t worry about it just yet. However get the mulch off the trunk. That tree is going to be huge for that spot in 20 years or so.
