Looks like some sort of over spray, paint or drywall mud? It looks like some of it has been scraped off. JMHO
Also same 'white death' lol is on steel parts, screws and felling dogs and aluminum. Alum will corrode, steel will
rust.

magnesium corrodes white. i can't tell from your pictures if the paint is missing or if something is on the paint. It looks like what ever it is on the AV mount too. there is usually a bit a thickness to these saw housings. Unless you have large pits in the metal I won't worry too much about it.

I don't really think it is corrosion, as alot of it is on plastic. For the most part alot of it is on the tank which is plastic. Looks like maybe cut concrete or some kind of white wash.

That sure looks like some type of over spray. It is on the handle and up under the clutch cover. You can also see where it has been scrapped off being drug around. I saw over spray of some sort.

It's not corrosion, at least not from the saw. The paint on the bottom of the case halves looks good and that plastic tank
isn't going to corrode in the way that non-ferrous metals corrode. Polyethylene breaks down to be sure but in a different way.

What it looks like to me is some sulfuric acid (battery acid) came in contact with the third mount at some point (the front stiffener
with the extra spring) and that's what we're seeing. I'm guessing this is a 281/288.

Take a pad of scotch brite and some soapy water and clean it off...

As everyone else has said your tank is made of plastic--cant really corrode--or at least, not in the same fashion as metal.

There's some surface rust it looks like on the bottom of the av spring mount but nothing too bad from what i can tell.

Just clean it up.

Thanks thats good solid info. Im trying to figure it out myself. All I have is a pic. Also looks like some battery acid or some H2SO4.
