just cleaned up some brush out back, and upon returning, began the usual cleanup of the saw. i noticed a bit of oil on the front of the saw, under the muffler, next to the dogs. at first i thought it was from the bar and chain, but after some closer inspection found the true culprit.

on the muffler there is a sort of brace that goes down onto the front of the oil tank, there is a screw that holds it in place. i removed the screw to find it stripped, but the hole's threads are fine. i looked into the hole and noticed there was no metal at the bottom, tilted the saw forward and oil came out!! is this normal, or did someone try to fix something and drilled to deep?

That is normal, the brace machine screw goes through into the oil tank. A new screw may fit tight enough to stop the leak, if any thread locker is needed the hole will need to be cleaned thoroughly of all oils.

a new screw should do the trick, might put a wrap of teflon for good measure.

thanks for the quick response!!!
