I finally got around to putting the 79cc piston/cylinder on my HD Makita. I was checking some old threads about this conversion and noticed that my kit came with the old style gasket, rather than the updated metal one. Is there any reason to take it back apart and get the metal one? Just wondering if there were any specific problems that led Dolmar to switch to the metal gasket.

Some of the paper gaskets actually blew out, creating an air leak.

Do a squish test, if yours is up at or past 0.040", remove the gasket all together.
IIRC the gasket mic's out around the .018 to .020 thickness range and the increased compression is noticeable in the running of the saw.

Was this a chronic problem with the paper gaskets, or only in certain circumstances? I read that some of the problems came when running bars 24" or longer.
