Hello, we have a knobby type growth growing around our trees. It started around the trees and has spread to other areas of lawn too.
We have 5 acre of grass and I am thinking that I am spreading it with the lawn mower. We also have toad stools growing in circles. (strange) We thought it was a vole at first. My husband thinks it is the tree roots growing up through the ground. 60 hybrid poplars I have to mow around.
I thought it was a fungus growth of some kind..At this piont we don't know what to think. Anyone know what this is??

They are mechanical cancers from the roots gtting mowed regularly. The root gets injured, then trys to close the wound. Then gets run over with the mower again.

Finaly fall comes around, you quit mowing and the rroots get to grow.

Kill the grasss around the tree and cover with mulch. It will save the tree and your mower blades.

might be a littel burling there too. (search for another post on that <g>.)

Thank you for answering my post.
Our lawn mower blades are set to 4". We mow high to save conserve moisture.
I do not remember ever hitting the roots on the top of the ground. Perhaps the damage is coming from the tires as I drove over them. There are spots of these things out in the middle of the lawn areas where the closest tree is 15-20 feet. I will look into Burling as you have suggested. Thank you again for your answer.
