I just lost ~30% of my ~250 year old tree due to a cavity/hollow, the "hole" will certainly need to be filled, but with what? (concrete I've heard is not good and since it's about 30' up from the base would require a pumper truck...

This tree is approximately 20' around at the base, and was the primary reason for me buying my home... If the tree has to go, so do I......

any help is appreciated (arborists in Chapel Hill, NC area?)

I think Treeseer is from NC. Look him up here and ask him. He'll probably be around shortly, however, if you wait.

Didn't have to wait long. I just came back from Chapel Hill; saw 3 huge oak trees that I had to give a death sentence to, one on Bounday Av and one off Erwin Road. Dam Drought.

If your willow (not pin) oak lost a stem revealing a major cavity, its days are numbered. Post a picture for free advice that is guaranteed to be worth every penny it costs.
