Local Ads and pricing Stihl vs Husky

Here are two recent ads pulled from the local buy and sell last week.

These are in Canadian $$ and to me the Husky's seem slightly more then the Stihl but I am not familiar with all the models!

You gotta change those prices to US dollars to compare. Prices in Canadian dollars are higher looking. Those prices may, indeed, be higher, but I don't know 'cuz I don't have the exchange rate at hand. They use the same "dollar" sign [$] so don't let that throw you. When I order stuff from there, even my invoices are in Canadian dollars. Last spring, I seem to recall the exchange rate made their prices appear about 10% higher but don't quote me.

I live in Canada for almost half the year. Believe me when I say everything is more expensive in Canada. Also dont forget your going to have both PST and GST tacked on to the posted prices.

and in the uk the husky 137 retails at UK£ 199 = 393.6817 US$, if you look cvarefully online the cheapest worked out at UK£ 179 = 354.1157 US$. how bad is that!

I just saw ads for a website offering just about that: You order the Husqvarna/Jonsered you want from them, they walk out to the nearest dealer in the US, buys the saw and send it to you.

If I remember correctly you'll end up paying them about 60% of what you would have paid for it at a Swedish dealer, another 20% for taxes and such when you pick up your package, and the last 20% is saved money, varies a little depending on which model you want. Sounds like any other mail order business.

And you get an experienced saw; it has traveled twice across the Atlantic even before it get out of it's box. The environment just has to love us inhabitants for all the clever little things we´re doing to it... :bang:

But that's still like about $1020 or so, that difference doesn't even cover the ticket for the ferry to pick one up...

Even with the exchange (today 1.15CDN = 1.00US) Canadian saws are way more expensive. I was looking to get rid of some slow moving new saws on ebay and found that new saws from US dealers were selling below my cost. I think next year I will do our saw booking on ebay.

Maybe there is an additional Canadian tax on goods going towards making Quebec a seperate country. Need a whole nother govt. apparatus if you are a separate country.

Just wait a few more years until the SW US is fully Spanish speaking. Since they won't have anything in common with the rest of us, they will require independence also.
