A local farm supply just sent out a flyer with some pretty good deals on chain for this area. You can pick your choice of any chain brand they have in stock, they carry Stihl, Oregon and Husky

14" selling for 11.99
16" 13.99
18" 15.99
20" 17.99
any other lengths they are offering 2.00 regular price. I thought this was pretty aggressive pricing on chain in our local area, wondering how it compares elsehwere.

They are also advertising the 460 Husky 3.68 cu in 3.7 hp with free xtra chain for 449.95 and then advertising the Stihl 290 3.47 cu in 3.7 hp with free xtra chain at 359.99. That makes the Stihl 89.96 cheaper than the same size Husky. Basically a hundred dollar bill difference between a 290 and a 460, I didn't realize it was that much of a difference.

They were also aggressive on splitter pricing offering a 22 ton hydraulic with a 8.75hp Briggs I/C and 11 gpm pump at 999.00.

The best price I can find on bar oil this year is 7.25 a gallon, I'm tempted to buy the 5 qt jugs of quaker state when O'reilly's and Auto Zone run them at 8.99 with a free oil filter and just use new 10-40 as bar oil and keep the oil filters for future changes.

Are these chain prices competitive with what you guys are paying?

They do this about twice a year. It even beats the discount I normally get at my favorite dealer. Time to stock up, I guess it'll be my Christmas presents early. I wish there timing of the sale was back in September instead of a couple weeks before xmas, I'd have more disposable cash, it seems to disappear faster than I can bring it in during December.

Last oregon I got cost me about 15.25 for a 32" loop. The stihl was $18.50 for a 32" loop. That's what it cost me to make it off a roll.

Picked up 3 24" Oregon chains for $17 each after shipping.

Added a couple of 24" chains to a Baileys order for $17.99 each.

Recently got a couple 20" .325 chains locally for $15 each.

That's a great deal on chain.

Around here a 460 husky with 20" bar goes for about $469 and the 455 husky is about $399. I think the 455 husky is a better comparison to the MS 290 than the 460. I have ran both and I think the 455 is a better performer but dealer support goes a long way. Remember, when the MS 290 first came out, it was a lot more...............around $430-$460. Stihl is also running a special on the MS 290, you get a free case with it...............for now, they usually do this about every year. Not all dealers advertise this but just ask.
I picked up a MS 291 yesterday just to see how it felt and look it over. Looks like some big improvemens but the improvements raised the price to about $469. The upgrades are nice though.

Anybody remember when Edge and Engine had a sale on Oregon chain this past summer?? 72dl .325 and 72dl 3/8ths only 10 dollars a loop. I bought 15 loops at the sale price just after buying ten loops at a more than fair price. Sorry, im boasting, rubbing salt in the womb if you will!!

I got in on that one. We got ten of each and then cut the .325 loops down to 68 drivers. It still ended up being cheaper than anywhere else.

I got 10 of those $10 loops fro Edge and Engine as well. But the prices for the ms290 and the Stihl chain at that sale are a really good deal. Around here you can sell a used 290 a lot easier and for a lot more money than a 460 Husky. All things being equal I'd go the Stihl route.

Yes I certainly do! I was in the barn poking thru chainsaw stuff yesterday and noticed I still had 4 of the 3/8 72dl chains from that sale still sitting, untouched. What a great deal that was!

And the price on chains is a few $ less than Shihl chain at my dealer. $19.99 for a 33RSC-72 and $22.99 for a 33RSC-84 this fall.

I am selling most chains within a few pennies of each of those. :msp_thumbup:
