measuring connecting rod length?

do not know how everyone does it......

thoughts:
adding an extended length on aluminum along the top half of dial calipers. then measure from the center axis of the flywheel shaft (or sprocket shaft) to the wristpin axis. then subtract 1/2 of the stroke length. all with motor laying on it's side.
