I recently purchased an MS 250 which I had configured with a Stihl .325 inch RS .063 chain on the stock 16 inch Stihl bar that came with the unit. My use will be to clear some 10-15 inch pine trees, use for general tree maintenance and cut a small amount of firewood. This is a saw for basic casual use. I have moderate experience with chain saws. I went to another Stihl dealer who told me that the chain was way to aggressive for the saw and that the saw did not have the power to operate the RS chain. He couldn't believe that someone sold me the saw with this chain. This made me think that maybe I over did it. I have been looking for an RMC chain for a second chain but none of the Stihl dealers in California seem to have them. Did I screw up and should I go back and buy an RM chain.

I'm running the same b&c setup on my 025 and have zero complaints. Saw seems happy as a clam... Just keep that RS sharp.

FWIW my dealer doesn't even stock RM. It's either RM2 or RS.

You do need to get a spare chain, btw. You may rock chip that one or snag something in the wood or if you throw it you could get a burr on the links that prevent it from setting back down in the bar groove... It's just good sense to have a spare. And if you can find an RM, it'll hold an edge better in dirty wood - but won't cut quite as fast - as the RS. I'd buy some RM loops to run now and then if they'd sell them here...

bullcrap..RS on an 025 is great!

Dude that guy is FOS. He wants to make sure if you are inexperienced youd on't hurt yourself or he himself is misinformed. I run an 18" bar with the same chain and have cut reams of firewood adn brush with it. Chisel is def. the way to go. get the file and sharpen it yourself. But since it is an aggressive chain...be very careful...it can come back and mess you up pretty bad if your not careful with it especially if you do a lot of cutting with the nose or plunge cutting.

I don't doubt that, but I am pretty sure the saw would be even more happy with a 95VP narrow kerf chain.

MS250 should handle 26RS. I have MS270 and it is even ripping easily at the full cutting length with 18" bar and 26RS, no problems ;)

And maybe I would be, too. I'd like to run a loop. I just don't want the saw happier than me.:blob2:

Yes, it will "handle" it.
Different people have different expectations, so what you are content with could be totally unacceptable to the next man.
There never will be consensus about what is "good enough" for a given task.
:D

It is really indisputable that chisel will tear through clean woood faster than anything else...I think the 95VP is just alright chain..it's more like semi chisel though..so will it be as fasta s the RS...maybe it's lighhter weight will make up for it. I know this is a bad habit but even at just part throttle the 025 with RS or similar will tear through a 4-6" piece of wood in under 5 seconds. I don't know why youa re so sold on the 95VP but it is probably a really good chain, I was impressed with the millingversion of it(95R) when I was cutting split rails. But I will always run full chisel where I can and square ground where it's practical(not on 025)

i know why hes so happy with the 95vp . it cuts fast an smooooth.
i have both setups for my 026[issue rs with .63 bar ,and narrow kerf w 95vp], and the 95vp stays on all the time.to each his own.
