Yep... keep the exhaust off the wood.. things catch on fire!

You'll ever seal the screen or hold it rigid by just cutting a slot. It need a rail carrier inside to guide and hold it like the factory - that why I went for the TS400 style of screen.

I thought the exhaust pressure mite push the holder against the
inside of the muffler...........But would it look legal? :)

Played with saw a little, put factory screen back in place.
exhaust was coming out of the screen slot and hitting brake
handle. Don't know if would melt brake handle after some time
but don't want to find out.

I thought "15 minute hillbilly muffler mod" meant that the muffler was removed and put against the logpile, then perforated with a Wondernine.

Here's a muffler mod.

Had a go kart when I was a kid, had two Mac chainsaw motors
on it and thats how the exhuast looked on them. No recoil start
used a screwdriver with a rope tied to it. would almost make a
ten year old boy  I had blood blisters all the time from
when it would kick back on me. Only one motor ran when I
got it. Cleaned carb on non-running motor, it came to life.
When dad seen how fast it would run with two motors
"Son take one of them motors OFF!, before you kill yourself"

Man was that thing loud!

When I read the title and saw "15 minute" and "Hillbilly" in the name I figured someone took the time to remove the muffler from the saw before he shot the muffler full of holes. Actually, the louvers look pretty nice to me. Any special tips on making louvers like that?:givebeer:

+1 ;)

Why are you repeating what Urbicide already said???

Got a question for you 361 folks. Which way to increase the bar oiler output. Right or left? Tried both ways, didnt see much difference with the long bar, maybe its just to much for the oiler eh?
Was a little bored today and put the 32" with square skip and cut up some 28"-34" trunk piece. Was pretty impressed with the cut with big bar in soft spruce wood, till I hit the %^$@ dirt at bottom of one of the cuts and that was all she wrote for square chain.

On my 361, it is clearly marked, but I don't remember for sure right now - believe it is with the clock, with saw upside down, though.

If you don't have the user manual, you can find it on stihls web-site.......;)

I have now cut two tanks with hillbilly muffler mod, cut post oak
and red oak 20" dia and smaller.

Yes it makes a difference, was very happy with exhaust
flow.....No problems with exhaust hitting my hand or the saw
But going to stick with my plan to sell the saw, like the
extra HP of the 440 and really like the 260 W/picco chain
for 16" dia and smaller

So if you need a 361 with hillbilly mod muffler or the stock muffler.
It will be listed on AS trading post in a day or two, W/O BC
Bought saw new Oct. 12 2006

Bought a used 361 muffler to hack on, took about 15 min to do total
inclueding changing mufflers. It's no Lakeside mod. and no screen. If I dont like it I will tig it back up
and do it Lakes way (the right way) I was just wanted to play a little.
Just done it so I have'nt cut with it.....Was kind of shocked when
she fired up, Sounds like a real chainsaw now! :D

As "someone" never sent me the muffler he promised me, I might try this one - looks really simple to do.....:)

The idea looks promising for the 353 as well, and winter is long.

I think it looks good, Gary!

If you can fashion a spark screen to it somehow it'd be great!

Personally, I like the "devil horns" smoke that the Lakeside mod has when I fire it up and give it some throttle.

LW are you kin to talon??????? :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

I do agree with the spark screen addition,,,, some of our cutting is in regulated forestry

and the screens are Mandatory!!!!!!! :help:
