MS460 muffler gasket

This shouldn't take long. There is a gasket between the 2 muffler halves on my MS460. It needs replaced. I went to 3 auto parts stores and found cork, paper, and rubber gasket material. The application for these (water pumps, oil pan gasket, tranny gasket, thermostate, etc.) did not appear it would work for a chainsaw muffler due to the heat. One of the salesman told me to make one out of an aluminum can??? So,

1) Other than purchasing OEM, is there anything I can make a gasket out of? If you know a brand or part # that would be helpful too.

2) Can the saw be operated without one?

That gasket is useless.
Just run without it, you and your saw will never know the difference.

They are about a buck fifty from your Stihl dealer....LOL
