Take the muffler off, then you can blow it out with an air hose if you're not going to split it. (Can't remember if it's a 2 piece muffler or not off the top of my head.)

Use hot water and soap/degreaser, rinse it all out good with hot water, then blow it out with compressed air, then shake it around to test. If you don't hear any chips still rattling around, I'd call it good and move on with my life.

I will eventually do my 261, is it a brand new 261???
Also take a pic or let me know if it’s open inside…

Cleanliness is the key here, even if you think your drilling a clean hole there will be burr on the inside which can break off and get sucked in. So do the job right first time instead of half a job then come back on here asking how/why is my cylinder scored. If you cant get access to the back side of the drilled hole invest in a little tool to remove the burrs it's easy and quick to do, and well worth the time it takes. Then give it a good wash out as said by others. Good luck.
