I replaced a bar on one of my saws with one from my reconditioned bar trove. It is a Rollomatic ES Stihl #3003-000-8822. I had replaced the nose (Stihl #3003-650-2551). It is an older model bar that is marked with stamped markings unlike the newer neat laser-etched markings in the rectangular box. It carries the usual markings -- part #, 1.3 gauge, 3/8 pitch, 72 drive links. It also is marked with PG 01.90. There is no length marking, but 72 drive links means 20", right? A 72-link chain was too short. So was a 73-link chain. I then compared the bar to a new one with the same part number. The main body of the old bar is about 20mm or 3/4" longer than the main body of the new one. I had to make up a 74-link chain for this one, and I marked it as 21" and it is doing just fine on my old 311 with a 7-pin rim. Did Stihl at one time have a shorter replaceable nose on their Rollomatic S bars?
