need a shade tree

I am in the New York area and looking to purchase a shade tree for the front of our home. Can anyone make any suggestions....a shade tree that is hardy and will last us, and is easy to maintain.

i would appreciate any suggestions for we are new homeowners and have no idea about trees.

How about a little more information. How big is the site (in square feet), is it sunny or shady, dry or wet. Is there any overhead wires or underground utilities.

The key is to match the tree to the site.
