Need help decoding serial number on Craftsman 3.6/20

I am working on a Craftsman 3.6/20 or Poulan 306a and I would like to know the year it was made. The serial number is 28000101. Any help would be appreciated.

Seen 2 of those in red craftsman for sale lately. Both $100 a piece.

We bought two new 306A`s around 79- 80 they were the early type with stamped steel mufflers tat did not last very long before the rust destroyed them, the saws lasted a long time and had great cutting power in the wood we cut back then, later on I found the cast aluminum mufflers to replace the rusted out steel ones but by that time we had moved on to using Sachs Dolmar saws. I never knew that the serial numbers could be deciphered to tell the year of manufacture.

Maybe try the Poulan thread. That vintage is past my knowledge... I was just cruzing the web for info.

I do find it strange that your saw and the 1 on eBay have the exact same serial number tho!
