I'm new to the forum and I haven't had much luck finding a sticky on the 272xp. I'm wanting to mod the muffler but I need I bit more detailed instruction that what I've been able to find through several google searches.

I'm getting into milling and want to give the old gal just a bit more oomph. Thanks for any help

I'm not an expert on any huskies but as far as i'm aware saws of that age don't suffer from muffler restrictions like todays saws so you might see some gain but not much. Best thing wood be careful woods porting IMHO

Just drill or cut a hole in the center of the front muffler bracket , and go through the muffler . I think a 5/8ths hole should do nicely . Just leave some meat around the edge of the bracket . Tune it a little bit rich , as the 272 will turn well over 14,000 with a MM . for milling , I'd tune to the vicinity of 13,500 .
