As some of you know, the cicada swarm is right around the corner. They come in, destroy everything that is a pencil in diameter, and then leave.

I have some 1 year old oak trees that I want to protect. I have access to some window screen netting, but I would have to pay a pretty penny for it.

I am looking for alternatives.

They are growing a quite a rapid clip, so it needs to be something that will handle their increasing height (right now about 3 feet, but it seems like they are growing by the week).

Would tobacco canvass work?

Thanks,

Cheese cloth?

This is what I have seen mentioned for netting against the cicadas, but I guess anything that is lightweight, allows sunlight and moisture to get through and keeps the bugs off will work just as well.

I haven't checked yet but it would seem that any major garden center would have something in stock - they've only had 17 years to think about getting some in inventory:rolleyes:
