How can I find out the age of an oak tree that is 18 ft. 8 in. circumference?

Oak

Call Your local city or state Forester. I'm sure they would like to see such a specimen. Good Luck. :)

The rule of thumb (ROT) I've heard is 1/4 - 1/3 inch average per year on urban trees. This gives a range.

Old growth hardwood have documentaition of 75-100 rings per inch. these being the best "tone wood" or for musical intruments.

Tells you why we have no Strativarias level makers these days.

The mesurment should be taken at 4.5 feet. (Daimeter at Brest Hight DBH)

x3=214 years

x4=285 years

x4.5=321 years
