I would like to plant under a pine tree in my back yard. What sort of plants/ground cover will flourish under the pine tree? How do the dropping needles affect the soil?
Pine needles tend to make the soil more acidic. What you plant will depend on your tastes, shade and soil conditions. Lots of choices available for your weather conditions too.
I like to use native plants under my pine trees . I am on the east coast so the plants i can use will be diferent than what you have in CA. I use native azaleas and bottlebrush buckeye. check with your local nursery they should be able to give you some ideas. john
