A tree trimmer fell off my fence into my neighbor's 70-year old Ponderosa Lemon tree, and splintered one of the main branches. Does the branch need to be cut off behind the crack, or is there any other remedy that could preserve the branch? The branch makes up a substantial part of the tree. If it has to be cut off, how should the wound be sealed? Please see the attached pictures.

Thanks,
Rob

behind the crack for sure. I might go back to that main trunk, or 1/4 to 1/2 inch from it to be more exact. Depends how fast those grow.

You could maybe drill it all the way throu top to bottom and bolt it back together. Two bolts. Trim it and lighting it up.
As small as it is you could prop it up with a 2×4 after bolting and taking off weight on ends.
