I just bought a refurbished Poulan 4218 18" saw. I got the chain sharpened and since I have put it back on, when I start the saw the chain moves. If I rev it up the chain stops moving and works normally. It has a no-tool chain adjustment that seems to work itself loose and I don't know if that is the problem or the clutch is the problem. When I initially use the saw for a couple of minutes and stop, the chain is loose. I adjust it and it stays good.
Since this problem has started I have noticed the chain sounds a little different when it's revved. I can't really explain what the sound difference is.
Can anyone give me a tip on what to check?

Either the idle is set to high or the clutch spring is broken ! Adjust the idle counterclockwise , if not remove the bar & chain & look at the clutch chaindrive & see if the spring is broken or heated to the point of being loose .If so replace the clutch or take it to a servicing dealer !
