Just a quick question, when removing a damaged limb from the main trunk of a tree, should it be cut off as close to the trunk as possible, or should a small 'stump' be left? As well should the wound be sealed? if so what is the recommended sealant?

Thanks guys

Matthew

The stub should be cut at the Branch Collar, and not cut flush to the trunk. The idea being you want to create as small of a wound as possible so the tree can seal off the wound over time. Coating the wound is not nessissary, it is just for esthetics and does not aid the wound in sealing.
