We recently took down a flowering tree from the front yard because it gets these heavy red apples hanging which pulls the branches way down and looks bad. It is also a very dirty tree. We have a colonial home and I want to put some trees in the small island we have which is located to the west side of the house about 15-20 feet away from the house. I need help in deciding what kind of tree or trees to plant. I want something that will grow quickly and high with some shading.

10-15 ft from the house is too close for a large shade tree, over time it will cause problems especialy of you have a 2-story.

Amalanchier, pagoda dogwood, a crabapple with small persistant fruit, redbud. Maybe a tall upright tree like Katsura.
