Hi All.

I have a 3 year old weeping willow, and I noticed yesterday that it has a series of small holes in the trunk. Some are in a line horizontally, and there are a series of 15 or so that make up a 2" x 2" square. I'll add pictures when I figure out how to download them off of my phone.

I live in central KY, and did not notice them last year. Any thoughts?

Might sound like I'm pulling your leg, but those holes are made by a Yellowbellied Sapsucker. It is a woodpecker. They make a row of holes and then come back to eat the sap and any insects that get stuck in it. They don't do any permanent damage to the tree. Watch for him, he'll be back.
