Is it really a MAC or is MTD making it?

-----------

This next one has caught my interest, I cant put my finger on who really makes it...

It's called a Bumble Bee, 18" bar, 45cc engine...Looks a little like a Husqvarna in the way the plastics are shaped...any ideas? Looks like it may have a metal crankcase, look at the front of the saw.

I think that the Mac and TroyBuilt are being built in China. We had a TroyBuilt in for repair a few weeks back and it was defiantly made in China. I had to call MTD tech to cross reference the strange Chinese spark plug. I was surprised that our distributor stocked it in both NGK and Champion.

So why did McCulloch whore itself out? Or more politely, why did they fall from glory? I know nothing of their history other than it used to be the big pro saw to have and now they make disposable units.

I beleive it was black and decker that bought em out...

They made a few nice saws after that, I like my 4600, its a big saw. They made one called a Silver Eagle, alot like the 4600, but with an Alpina motor, also a great saw...

But the 2800, 3200 or whatever...the little piles of crap, those were terrible. Next to impossible to work on too.

Yep,, Black and Decker was a death wish for many great brands... They bought ELU (Swiss). Merged it with B&D professional, and tanked both in a few years - then they cheapened the Dewalt brand... I still own Elu tools - 20 years and still going strong...

That explains it. Modern day Dewalt has suffered greatly in quality.
