Has anyone put an eye splice in blue streak before? I was working on it last night, following the directions on samson's site and every time I got the fid in the tape would slide off and the rope wouldn't go inside. Any suggestions?

scubadude1188, that is one tough rope to splice. As you have probably already discovered, the Samson "instructions" are more of a schematic than a real how-to manual. When they say something like "insert the tail at A and bring it out at C" they don't tell you it's going to take you an hour of hard work and even then you are going to fail unless you know 2 or 3 mechanical tricks to help you out.

Get the Brion Toss splicing video. This is a how-to tutorial, and it will save you many hours of error and give you a bag full of tricks.

I have never used the type of fid that is giving you trouble, but you can make your own:

One of the advantages of the pull type fid described is that it can be very small, and it can work on many types of rope. Good luck!

Thanks for the link to the fid design! I have also had some problems with the Sampson ropes...
