If I live until retirement in less than a hand full of years, I intend on building my own splitter.
While researching I did a Google search on "homemade wood splitter" and this is what I got.

Feel free to post a pic of yours please.

For now I'm thinking about adding a table and maybe a side lift so I can use it horizontally. it won't do nothing for the speed, but it will get me off the ground.

I don't have a homemade splitter but there are a few members on here that have built some excellent looking machines. You should get all the info you need and then some.

I would say if you do build your own, you should add a table and a lift, there is no thinking about it. I wish my store bought splitter had those. And another thing, make the machine high enough where you don't have to be bent over to run the controls. That is the main reason I don't run ours horizontal, it would kill my back and the fact that I don't have tables or lifts.

I've ran a horizontal and didn't like leaning over to load and chasing splits all over the place to split again. So I'm building this:

Yep if I build one it will be have about a waist high table/vertical cylinder/side lift arm. I have been following your thread and learning. I'm watching for a axle assembly now.
Thanks

The Dodge K car axle was an easy conversion. One thing I realized up front was I didn't want the splitter sitting on the springs when I'm splitting. That's when I added the rear stabilizers.

I noticed them and I agree it is a very good idea. A stable platform will be easier to work on and safer.
