I have a White oak (I think it's a White oak) with black
rimmed large spots/absesses on the trunk (looking similar to that of where a
branch has been taken off at the trunk, but no branch has been taken off
there). Some are in the V where the tree divides. Disease??? Treatment???
Thanks - alley

I think its a canker disease. There is no direct treatment to cure this. Keep the tree as healthy as possible by pruning out infected limbs, providing adequate water and fertilizing if needed.

Sounds mor like a burl, sometimes a cluster of meristem that doesnt differentiate properly, some say due to virus. Could be from sprouts that die back fast.
