stihl 051AV questions

i thought about getting a stihl 051and I have a few questions, are they all metal? and anyone that has one are they good saws? i was looking for a big saw to use heavy duty would it be good for that from anyone who owns one.

There is a stickie in the chainsaw forum for these.
parts are available for them. Big, heavy and slow.
more a collector’s item than a work saw, imo.

All metal- heavy metal.
Hard pressed to find a braked one- if that is important to you- over here dealers will not work on an unbraked saw.
As above- big, heavy, slow, ugly AV, mediocre air filtration- parts not as easy to come across as something slightly more modern.
If you have no fillings in your teeth and have a hankering for arthritis in your fingers- go grab it for a daily user.

They look good on the shelf, started once a year to impress your mates, that's about it. I got a cheap one that ran, gave the saw away and kept the bar

Compared to new saws-big and heavy. Slow? Not with a sharp 404 chain. The lack of high revs was offset by big bites of the teeth.
They are a tractor, not a race car. Main logging saw when I started.
