Evening everyone!
I recently picked up an 084 and just pulled the muffler to take a little looksie tonight. I wanna start by saying that while I’m pretty alright with all the external stuff I don’t have a whole lot of experience messing with pistons and cylinders (I’ve only done 3 or 4 and always with parts that didn’t need to be cleaned up before installation) and I’m looking for a little sage wisdom. Compression seems alright but I haven’t had a chance to put a gauge on it yet and I’ve never worked on a saw this big.. so really I’m just guessing but it’s a bear to pull over. I’ve attached a few photos of what I could see through the exhaust port as well as a few of the plug. This needs to be pulled apart and cleaned up, correct? New rings at a bare minimum? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! That looks a little carboned up to me, I'd pull the jug and clean the exhaust port, cylinder roof, and the top of the piston, clean any carbon streaks off of the cylinder walls and piston, install new rings while you're in there, and re-assemble/run it.

Picked up one myself last week and physically in nice shape, it's got issues (scored piston) so will pull it down when I have a chance , quite the saw084q.JPG084.JPG
Got 2 more customer saws that he wants me to make 1 out of the 2 and the addition of a hand oiler assist is something you don't see very often anymore
