i have a stihl round chisel chain that has a "58" stamped on each drag link. is this a .058 gage chain? bar number is 3003 000 6817 which catalog indicates is a .063 gage. do i have matching gage??? seems to fit ok though.

i am not at home to check w/ dial indicator

is the 58 on the tip of the raker or on the bottom of the drive link? I have never heard of a Stihl chain with a 58 on it to signify gauge. Only thing I can think of is its a 3/8" pitch....which is found on the raker and looks like 58. And it is .063 gauge which on the bottom of each drive link should say, 5.

its on the bottom side of the drive link. the part thats inside the bar. its clearly a 58. maybe this size 58. slightly smaller than this print nothing else. stumped me too. it is 3/8 pitch though.

Do you have any idea how old that chain is?

The only options I can think of is that it either is a chain from before the current numbering system was introduced, or a chain made by someone else, for Stihl......

Btw, how do you know that it is a Stihl chain?
