I need to assess the impact of abandoning a 30 year old septic system. The leach field is among two native oaks trees, one tree in 25.5 inches in diameter and the other is about 18-inches in diameter; these are nice trees which we do not want to lose. Again, these trees have been under the influence of effluent from a septic system through a leach field for over 30 years. The question is what happens when the effluent stops because we build a new leach field system at a remote location? I am afraid that the trees will suffer and, most likely die. Do you know of a publication which covers this problem? Any help/advice would be great.
