Many of my customers mount a Warn winch to their grinders for the reason you stated. You can connect the winch to the battery and in many instances the winch comes with a tethered remote. You may want to carry a steel stake with you incase there are no trees around.

Hope this helps!

I welded a hitch receiver tube on the front of one of my grinders. Then, mounted a small warn 12 volt winch on a steel plate, welded the plate to a receiver "shank", and created an easily removable winch. I had the two leads rigged up to clip onto the grinder battery terminals. I could pin the winch on and hook up the 2 wires in about 2 minutes, and be in business, if I needed the winch.
I did not use it much at all, but the few times I needed it, I was REALLY glad I had it.
