Hi this is my first post to this forum.

I have a huge Sycamore in my backyard that has dark thick oozing sap patches running around the base of the tree about 3-4 ft off the ground. The bark looks normal although there seem to be a few bare spots which may or may not be common for a Sycamore. I have also noticed a few holes in the side of the tree that may be a woodpecker but I am not sure.

Is the sap running out of the bark a disease that needs help or a normal occurence that may fix itself? Do I need to post additional info? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

sycamore

i was thinking thinking that the sap running out is caused by a slime flux, caused by a bacterial wetwood infected tree.is the sap running from one of the wholes or a branch stub.if the sap hasnt stained the trunk yet you could find a way to redirect the sap so it doesnt stain the trunk.if this is the problem, there isnt a way to stop this problem
