Hey guys, I picked up a MS460 today that looks lije it has been run over by a skidder. It's busted up pretty good. I squirted WD40 down the carb and on top of the piston and spun it with my drill and water blew out of it. Out of curiosity I hooked up my compression tester and after blowing all the oil and water out of it she's making 160 psi of cylinder pressure. Do you guy's think it is worth rebuilding???

Um..... Do you know where you're asking that?
Yes,yes I do. And I asked it in such a fashion that I am prepared for instant annialation from the saw masters here. I couldn't have got my 044 up and to ning if it hadnt been for the help i recieved here. All opinions are welcome to reply. I have very thick skin and a dang good BS meter. Only concern i have pertains to how much water got to the bearings on the crank. If i can find another body to put this engine in i will probably toss a big bore on it and have a lil 066.....so let the suggestions fly!!!!

I would skip the big bore. You already have a piston and cylinder that will make more power if they're OEM. If the tank is good I would look for a new case and start from there. Clean everything and inventory the good parts. Build it slowly, finding deals when you can.

That sounds like good advice. This will be my first complete teardown and rebuild.

Two years ago I rebuilt an MS 440 that was in about the same shape as this 460. A tree service company climber dropped it from 50' up and after it hit the ground, the big branch landed on top if it. By some miracle it still had compression. After I rebuilt it with a dozen parts or so, the saw runs today.

If things don’t work out with the rebuild, you could always sell that top end to me down the line
