Location: Olympia, Washington
Salary: Range 45E ($3,128 - $3,628/monthly)

[*]PRIMARY DUTIES:
Inventories trees through use of a Hazard Tree Evaluation process; Identify suitable species for preservation and recommend modifications to preliminary land use plans to preserve suitable trees; Plants and cares for new trees, including staking, mulching, pruning for early structure; Inspects and prunes trees for insects, disease, hazards, clearance, and visibility purposes; Prune large trees to promote plant health, improve plant appearance and protect people and property; Prune small trees for structure, defects and health; Remove dead or dying branches and trees injured by disease, insect infestation, animals, storms, and/or other adverse mechanical damage.
Be able to perform, supervise and train staff in tasks directly related to the use of such equipment as: tree climbing gear, aerial lift, brush chipper, spray equipment, stump grinder, chainsaw, winch and various hand tools related to tree and plant care; Operate all duties safely and direct others to follow safe work practices; Prepare and maintain equipment, records and reports; Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others contacted in the course of work;Train and evaluate the work of others also may be required; Perform other work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of journey-level experience using technical tree climbing skills which includes at least one year of experience in operation of motorized construction or logging equipment.
AND
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist certification, or a two-year technical degree in forestry, horticulture or arboriculture. An additional two years of experience performing journey-level arboricultural work may be substituted for the certification or technical degree.

REQUIRED LICENSES:

Commercial Drivers license (CDL) class C Washington driver's license
Washington State Public Pesticide Applicators license

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of journey-level experience tree care maintenance to perform journey level tree care service work; Two years of experience supervising employees engaged in tree care maintenance.
Overnight travel will be required as this position conducts statewide tree care.
