tree topped from storm

there is this small maple tree in my yard that had the leader broken during a storm, it already has a 3ft branch trying to replace it. will it recover sence its young, is there any thing i can do. thanks

i cant get pics right now, but its 2'' trunk at the base, it had about 3-4ft broken off and theres one new shoot already about 3ft, taken its place.( its a norway maple, if it matters)

Pics would help, but on a tree that young cleaning up the area where the branch broke would be best for the tree. This means a smooth proper cut. The tree will grow back to maintain its natural shape. Maple are fast growers. Keep the tree trained for shape and form.
